Retirement opens up a wonderful avenue of exploration for a person, especially if he or she has been surrounded by their career commitments for almost their entire adult life. One can utilize the newfound free time to take up new hobbies or long cherished desires to travel. It gives an opportunity to explore the world without the constraints of work. Now there are myriad of places one can travel to, but what to seek exactly as a traveller just out of retirement? What is it that makes travelling post retirement different? Let’s have a look:
A Japanese Escape:
Are you fascinated by the mystical nation of Japan? Then turn your fascination into a fully realized experience. Japan is truly a wonderful nation replete with cultural and culinary experiences, and natural beauty. Visit the beautiful cities of Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and experience the rush of the buzzing streets, delectable food, the importance of precision in the Japanese lifestyle, and the benefits of inculcating discipline in our daily lives.

Let the Coast be your host:
A coastal getaway is one of the most soothing and at the same time, energizing experiences. The calming views of the seashores, long walks on beaches and a variety of cultural, culinary and topographical experiences ensure that one is thoroughly rejuvenized. Kerala, Maldives, Lakshadweep, Goa, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are some of the best destinations one can travel to in order to enjoy the magic off the coasts of India.

A Road Trip across the States:
This suggestion will take you a little far off. The States that we’re talking about here are the United States of America. Have a long gestating desire to visit the US? Then make that desire come true by getting yourself on a trip through the American roads. From the Grand Canyon to the beaches of California, the national parks, and iconic cities like New York and Chicago, the open road awaits. Take it slow, stop often, and savor every moment.

A Slow Trip:
This doesn’t mean literally slowing down your walking pace. Slow Tourism is a concept which encourages travellers to experience a place thoroughly through local activities, allowing time to deeply connect with the environment and in the process finding time for oneself. Take for example, pasta making camps in the heart of Italy, wine tours in the Napa Valley, a short vacation along the coast, etc. This type of tourism suits the post retirement state of mind perfectly as it gives a chance to slow down and really enjoy the intricacies of life, fully and satisfactorily.

These are just my suggestions for travelling. One can desire to travel in any way they wish to post retirement. After all, it is good to treat yourself to a great holiday after years of hard work.
